An Exploration Study of Tourism Activity and Happiness in Baby Boomers and Following Generations
Yoon Hye-Jin

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the generation differences of tourist behaviors and subjective happiness in Baby boomers and Generation X, Y, and Z. This study also investigated the effects of socio-demographics, tourist behaviors, tourist satisfaction and the perceived value of tourism on subjective happiness. The online survey was conducted in May 2017 and a total of 450 completed questionnaires were used for this study. The major empirical findings are as follows. First, several tourist behaviors (e.g., travel companion, the frequency of tourism, the type of tourism, the source of travel information) showed significant differences between Baby boomers and Generations X, Y, and Z. The younger generation are more likely to participate in tourism than Baby boomers. Second, the tourist satisfaction was significantly related to the life satisfaction or subjective happiness. The results suggest that tourism plays an important role in enhancing the subjective happiness in later life.
